Head of Hockey Position

Hockey Manawatu Incorporated (HMI) is one of the leading hockey associations in New Zealand with over 2,500 registered winter players, a summer competition and numerous development programmes which continue to flourish. To help continue this growth, and ensure sustainable pathways for all hockey participants to reach their goals, HMI is seeking a passionate, driven and outcomes focused Head of Hockey to lead the hockey pillar of HMI. As Head of Hockey you will be responsible for and lead the hockey aspect of HMI’s operations ensuring clear pathways are available for players, coaches, and officials to develop and reach their hockey goals / potential. This includes leading the Competitions Manager and Participation and Development Officer, as well as mobilising and enabling a community of volunteers, to ensure connected pathways. You will lead the hockey function of HMI, supporting the General Manager to deliver the strategic plan and to deliver quality experiences for the community. A key part of this role will be understanding the impact of Hockey NZ’s strategy and associated changes on HMI, advocating for hockey in our region, addressing any challenges and seeking out opportunities.Key attributes for the role will be strong people management and communication skills, as well as an understanding of establishing effective pathways to support all participants reach their respective hockey goals.Other key attributes include: • Manage and maintain relationships with clubs, Hockey NZ, the sports sector and other stakeholders • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and presentation skills • Self-motivation and self-management • Experience and exposure to the sports and recreation sector • Computer skills, including presentation preparationThis is a full-time position, with some evening and weekend work required.
