Update regarding the General Manager and Regional
Development Manager positions
19th March 2019
To the Manawatu Hockey Community,
As you may be aware late last year our General Manager Kevin Nicholson and Regional
Development Manager Nicollette van Zeijl both left the Hockey Manawatu team. The
timing of these departures has been difficult for the Board. Our initial advertisement for
a General Manager was in late December and as yet we have not found the right
candidate to fill the position. We will be re-advertising the role shortly. We have been in
contact with Sport Manawatu and Hockey NZ to assist us.
The Board is conscious of the need to find the right candidate to carry us forward.
Changes to the hockey landscape locally, with new facilities in our region and nationally,
with the yet to be seen impacts of Hockey NZ’s Strategic Delivery Review process will
require a high calibre candidate to be able to confidently manage and respond to the
opportunities and challenges which arise.
The Board would like to acknowledge the hard work of our staff who have done
outstandingly well to keep Hockey Manawatu running through this period. The Board is
moving into a more operational role to assist our staff and ensure the continued smooth
running of hockey in our region for our community.
The Board’s intention is to fill the General Manager role first prior to advertising the
Regional Development Manager Role. It has become clear that as the hockey season
approaches some support is required for our remaining staff and the Board is
considering an interim General Manager to help see us through this period.
We would like to thank the hockey community for their ongoing patience,
understanding and support as we move forward into the 2019 season.
The Hockey Manawatu Board
